Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
When Lyra’s friend Roger disappears, she and her dæmon, Pantalaimon, determine to find him.The ensuing quest leads them to the bleak splendour of the North, where armoured bears rule the ice and witch-queens fly through the frozen skies – and where a team of scientists is is conducting experiments too horrible to talk about.
Lyra overcomes these strange terrors, only to find something yet more perilous waiting for her – something with consequences which may even reach beyond the Northern Lights…
Did I like it (by A aged 9)
Yes I did, alot. It’s the first book in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. It’s ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. My all time favourite book. I rate it 1000000/10 and I’m not just saying that, it’s true. I like it because it’s a very complicated plot and all of the characters are very interesting. The way Philip Pullman writes it just makes it so believable even though it’s a fantasy story. It’s called the Golden Compass in America just in case you can’t find it in a bookshop there. If you’ve seen the film (which is also called the Golden Compass), it cuts out such a lot of the story, so, if you’ve seen the film and liked it, or even if you didn’t like it, the book is still worth reading.
